It’s been over 30 years since the breaking of the Bat, the story that helped define an entire era of the Dark Knight, and my childhood. Now, Batman: Knightfall is finally making its way to the screen as a three-part, Rated R animated movie trilogy.
Batman: Knightfall Part 1 recently premiered at the Annecy Festival in France to rave reviews.
Batman: Knightfall Part 1 — Knightfall is expected to arrive on streaming and on demand later this year, though no official release date has been announced beyond 2026.
The trilogy will continue with Batman: Knightfall Part 2 — KnightQuest and end with Batman: Knightfall Part 3 — KnightsEnd, bringing one of Batman’s most iconic comic arcs fully to life in animated form.
For anyone who didn’t grow up with this story, this is a big one. The fall of Bruce Wayne, the rise of Jean-Paul Valley(Azrael), the breaking of the Bat, and the long road back to the cowl. Knightfall was not just another Batman story. It was the Batman story of the 1990s, and this treatment has been a long time coming.
