Sonic Mania is coming in 2017, and finally Sonic is back to his 2D roots. OK, so I know what your saying, Sonic 4 was a 2D Sonic game, and yes that’s true, and it’s also true that Sonic 4 was better than just about every other Sonic game that had been out in years, but it could have been better. First off, episodes really, I’m not saying episodic games are horrible, but Sonic isn’t some story driven game, we didn’t need it in episodes, and each episode was way to short, not to mention the issues with the physics and speed of the game. While it was still enjoyable, we really needed a true Sonic 2D game, and it looks like that’s exactly what we are getting in Sonic Mania.
Sonic Mania will feature classic re-imagined levels from Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2 3, Sonic CD, and Sonic & Knuckles, but you can also look forward to all new levels in the classic 2D platforming vein, along with completely new Zones and Bosses. Which leads this man to believe Sonic maybe back, Finally.
Sonic Mania will have the 3 classic characters to choose from
Sega of America has partnered with PagodaWest Games, Christian Whitehead, & Simon Thomley; developers who previously worked on the enhanced ports of Sonic CD, Sonic the Hedgehog 1, & 2, so we know both programmers have the classic gameplay in mind while working on this new title. Sonic Mania will be available in digital download come Spring 2017, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, & Microsoft Windows PCs, so it’s less than a year til we can get lost in those early 90’s again with our friend Sonic.
