First Look at the Film Adaptation of Stephen King

Idris Elba & Matthew McConaughey as Roland Deschain and The Man in Black "Randal Flagg"

The good folks over at Entertainment Weekly have posted their exclusive look at the Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, staring Idris Elba as “The Gunslinger” himself Roland Deschain, and Matthew McConaughey as the hated “Man in Black”  Randal Flagg.  While their isn’t too much to go on at this point, I do think you get an overall look at the aesthetic feel of the upcoming movie from these few set photos, and while I’m still going to reserve my final judgement until I’ve actually seen the movie, at this point I’m not all that hopeful.

The modernization and cleanliness of the film’s overall look just doesn’t do it for me.  Basically this world is a wasteland, and especially in the first book, a very large dessert.   These images, make the world seem very modern and clean, and I’m not sure I like that.  I’d expect the characters to be dirty, especially Roland, looking like he’s been on a long road, without bathing for long period of times, but no image shown so far has such a feel.

As I previously stated, I’m withholding my final judgment until I’ve actually seen the film, who knows, I may end up loving it, but at this point, it’s not looking good.
