2016 Video Game Hall of Fame Inductees

 

Space Invaders, Grand Theft Auto III, The Oregon Trail, Sonic the Hedgehog, The Legend of Zelda and the Sims were honored on Thursday, May, 5 2016 for their influences on gaming and pop culture at the Strong Museum in Rochester. NY.  The Strong Museum opened the World Video Game Hall of Fame last year.  The Strong has already house the National Toy Hall of Fame for many years.  When opening last year, the Word Video Game Hall of Fame set out to recognize video games that have influenced not only the gaming industry and culture, but also society as a whole.

This years inductees were chosen out of 15 finalists from thousands of nominations.  The Runner Ups included games such as John Madden Football,  Elite, Final Fantasy, Minecraft, Nurburgring, Pokemon Red & Green, Side Meier’s Civilization, Street Fighter II & Tomb Raider.

Last years inductees included Doom, Pac-Man, Pong, Super Mario Bros, Tetrix & World of Warcraft.
